Helping build FUNARTE's home (Esteli)

Region:

Over several years, Casa Canadiense helped FUNARTE, a mural-arts organization from the city of Esteli, build their own office space. Now completed, FUNARTE's team of over 20 artists and community development professionals are no longer cramped into a rented, tiny three-room house. Their office now includes two separate workshop spaces and ample offices. This effort has greatly contributed to FUNARTE's financial independence.   The following groups were instrumental in Casa's support to this project:

  • June 2007 - Students and teachers from St. Joseph Catholic Secondary School (Streetsville/Mississauga, ON Canada) helped put on the final coat of paint for this magnificent building.
  • May 2007 - Students and teachers from John Cabot Catholic Secondary School (Streetsville/Mississauga, ON Canada) worked hard to get the wiring installed throughout the two-floor structure.
  • January 2005 - Students and teachers from St. Augustine Catholic Secondary School (Brampton, ON Canada) helped raise the second floor.
  • January 2004 - Students and teachers from Robert F Hall Catholic Secondary School (East Caledon, ON Canada) brought funds and worked on the buidling in its initial stages.

FUNARTE was also supported in this task by other solidarity groups from Canada and Europe and received substantial support through in-kind services from the local municipality.
