Students of West Vancouver Secondary School's Global Issues class spent two weeks in March 2004 on the Island of Ometepe refinishing the blackboards in public schools around the Island.

The project was organized with local authorities through Ometepe's Red de Organizaciones Civiles, a local umbrella organization that works to promote participative democracy at the municipal and regional levels.

A total of 45 blackboards were refinished in 10 different public primary and secondary schools around the Island.
