Charity status
Casa Canadiense is a non-profit organization, based in the Province of Ontario, Canada. We are a registered charity with the Canadian Revenue Agency.
Our registered charity number is: 875183600 RR0001.
Board of Directors
Casa Canadiense is governed by a Board of Directors. Our Directors are volunteers who live primarily in the Greater Toronto Area. The Board of Directors oversees the organization's programming and finances and each board member sits on one or more committees.
The Board meets approximately 10 times a year and Board meetings are open to all supporters and interested parties in addition to an Annual General Meeting. Maximum term on the Board is 9 years.
Committees
All of Casa's work in Canada is carried out by volunteers who collaborate with the following three committees: Programs, Communications, Fundraising and Outreach (COF) and Events.
The Programs committee creates and implements our global education program in Canada and provides strategic direction to our Nicaraguan programming (community development projects and our educational work with delegations).
The Communications, Fundraising and Outreach (COF) committee does a variety of tasks including publishing our bi-annual newsletter, keeping our website, writing grants and donor and supporter outreach.
The Events committee, is in charge of just that, events. It has a strong and vibrant sub-committee the Brunch & Auction Committee which organizes our major annual fundraiser held in October of each year.
Volunteers
Casa Canadiense is a volunteer-run organization. Everything we have done over the past 15 years has been initiated and sustained by dedicated volunteers. Most of those volunteers contribute to the above mentioned committees. Please see "Get Involved!" to learn more about becoming a volunteer with Casa Canadiense.
Membership
Casa Canadiense has a voting membership as part of our governing structure. Our members are persons interested in furthering the Casa's objectives, mission, vision and values. Members are people who volunteer with Casa in a sustained manner or who support our work through a total annual donation of $120 or more. Members are entitled to vote at all Annual General Meetings and at all Special Meetings of the membership.
