Charity status
Casa Canadiense is a non-profit organization, based in the Province of Ontario, Canada. We are a registered charity with the Canadian Revenue Agency.
Our registered charity number is: 875183600 RR0001.
Board of Directors
Casa Canadiense is governed by a 10-member Board of Directors. Our Directors are volunteers who live in the Greater Toronto Area. The Board of Directors oversees the organization's programming and finances and each board member sits on several governing committees.
The Board meets approximately 10 times a year and Board meetings are open to all supporters and interested parties. Each year, at the Annual General Meeting, at least three new board members are elected, each for a maximum term of three years. Therefore, Casa is always on the look out for future board members. To be a Board member you must live in the GTA and be available to attend Board meetings and carry out some committee work.
Governing Committees
All of Casa's work in Canada is carried out by volunteers who collaborate with the following governing committees: Programs, Communications, Fundraising, Governance, Finance and Personnel.
The Program committee keeps tabs on the projects Casa is sponsoring in Nicaragua and structures our educational work with delegations
The Communications committee's main task is to publish our bi-annual newsletter.
The Fundraising committee, of course, is key to keeping us afloat. One of our strongest committee is the Brunch & Auction Committee which operates as a subcommittee of the Fundraising committee and is responsible for organising our major annual fundraiser. This is a great committee to get involved in!
The Governance, Finance, and Personnel committees are internal committees to supervise our staff, our finances and ensure adherence to our by-laws.
Volunteers
Casa Canadiense is a volunteer-run organization. Everything we have done over the past 15 years has been initiated and sustained by dedicated volunteers. Most of those volunteers contribute to the above mentioned committees. Please see "Get Involved!" to learn more about becoming a volunteer with Casa Canadiense.
Membership
Casa Canadiense has a voting membership as part of our governing structure. Our members are persons interested in furthering the Casa's objectives, mission, vision and values. Members are people who volunteer with Casa in a sustained manner or who support our work through a total annual donation of $120 or more. Members are entitled to vote at all Annual General Meetings and at all Special Meetings of the membership.
