Preventing Sexual Abuse in Leon II (CPF)

Based on the success of the first project, Casa Canadiense has followed up on the original pilot project with Las Tias Association to continue to prevent sexual abuse in the city of Leon. Funds for this project come from the Casa Project Fund.

By working with students, parents and teachers at 15 public primary and secondary schools in León and with community members from the surrounding neighbourhoods, Las Tias aims to reduce the incidence of sexual abuse.

Las Tias plan to reach 1500 students, 300 parents, 500 teachers and 500 community members through the workshops which will run until July 2009.

This project is the continuation of an initial effort by Las Tias undertaken two years ago which met unfailing community support. This second stage of the project will provide Las Tias with more funding for ensuring that youth who have suffered abuse can take advantage of existing legal structures to defend their cases.

Over the next year, Casa Canadiense will be contributing $4,500 to this very worthy project, with each workshop costing approximately $70. Las Tias will be putting in countless hours of work leading the workshops and providing follow-up.
