Region: After 5 years of hard work by the community, Casa Canadiense was instrumental in helping the 85 households - over 500 people - in Acahuanlinca, Managua finally get the municipal sewer connection they needed. Once they had the funds for the materials and Casa Canadiense on their side to deal with the various levels of government bureaucracy, 600m of pipe was laid and 11 manholes were built. The impact on local hygiene in this impoverished neighbourhood where many residents are self-employed in the local garbage dump, cannot be understated. Joanne Fisher (board member) was instrumental ensuring funding for this project. Thanks to North-South Program at Dawson College and the Oakville Rotary Club for their financial contributions. |
